Who We Are

The IMA is the leading professional organization devoted exclusively to management accounting and financial management. As set forth in its mission and vision statements, its goals are to help members develop both personally and professionally, by means of education, certification, and association with other business professionals.

As a respected leader within the global financial community, the IMA influences the concepts and ethical practices in management accounting and financial management. Its ethical standards provide guidance to practitioners for maintaining the highest levels of ethical conduct.

What We Do

The IMA provides members with extensive opportunities to build their professional knowledge and advance their careers:

Educational activities, including national seminars and conferences, regional and local programs, self-study courses, and in-house and on-line programs.

The Certified in Management Accounting (CMA) designation. Earning and maintaining this certification testifies to the individual's competence and expertise in management accounting and financial management.

Unique sources of information, starting with the IMA's flagship magazine, Strategic Finance, and including the new journal, Management Accounting Quarterly, research reports and additional publications.

Opportunities to meet colleagues and share knowledge and ideas, both in person and online, through local chapters, Member Interest Groups, and Industry Sectors.

The IMA provides a host of additional benefits, from its Job Bank and Information Center to discount services and insurance plans.

Mid-America Regional Council

The Mid-America Council was formed in 1975 by Bob Walker and Sammy Samuelson (Calumet Chapter), Paul Welsh (Illinois, Northeast Chapter), and Arnie Swenson (Rockford Chapter), to consolidate manpower for NAA's 1977 National Convention in Chicago.  The Mid-America Region now includes twenty chapters from Illinois, Wisconsin, Eastern Iowa and Northeast Indiana and serves as support for its twenty chapters.  Three delegates from each of the chapters serve on the council which meets four times annually at various locations within its region.

The Mid-America Council holds two major events each year, the Regional Conference and the Chapter Management Seminar.  The Regional conference includes an all-day seminar on current topics.  The second event of the year is the Chapter Management Seminar in April.  This is a very worthwhile gathering of officers and directors of chapters within the region to discuss problems, successes and ideas.

Purpose

The purpose of the Mid-America Council shall be:

  1. To further the purposes and objectives of the Institute of Management Accountants and its Chapters which are members of this council.

  2. To promote and facilitate cooperation and communication between its members and to provide means through which their resources may be pooled to assist the Chapters of the Institute of Management Accountants to achieve its purposes within the area served by this council.

  3. To conduct, sponsor, or participate in such activities as it deems desirable or necessary in accomplishing the foregoing purposes.

  4. To assist in the orderly establishment of new chapters in the area.
